INFO

Backstab the Kingpin started rapping in the early 90’s while living in Detroit’s Cass Corridor. He started his career with a solo release that was only available on cassette. The self-titled EP sold locally and caught the attention of the city. Within a few months, Backstab was a part of a rap group called Fenkell Avenue Players. The F.A.P. released a full length cd titled “Detroit4life” that received critical acclaim from Midwest Rap magazine, Murder Dog.

In early 2000, Backstab recruited local rapper/producer, Hush to produce half of his first professional release “Projects LP.” Hush was known for his Rap group Da Ruckus and recording with Eminem. Hush would later sign with Geffen records.  Backstab also created a relationship with Philadelphia DJ, Haze, who would produce half of both of Stab’s first two records. Haze was one of the few producer who could match the unique sounds of Hush's production. However, on the Blow Me lp, it would be Haze who grips the listeners attention producing "Broke Hip-hop." The Projects Lp drew national attention and would lead to further local "beef." Though his second album titled “Blow Me” would draw national attention and nearly get Stab signed to a major in 2005, the locals didnt take well to his title feeling it was directed toward some of them.

In the summer of 2006, Backstab the Kingpin left Detroit and would not return for 8 years. Now that he is back in his hometown…he has big plans. He has completed his third professional release (self titled). He has once again agreed to work with Haze Attacks for the new album. Featured artists include Ras Kass, Daz Dillinger, Phil the Agony, Mc Eiht and others
