Native Detroit Rapper Backstab the Kingpin to release Detroit’s Independent Album of the Year.

The original D-Boy is back! After a 10 year hiatus from hip-hop, Detroit native emcee, Backstab the Kingpin will release his third full length album June 21, 2014. The album titled “Back in the Day” features a plethora of hip-hop legends such as Daz Dillinger, Ras Kass, Mc Eiht, Bizarre (D12), Phil the Agony and others. It features one of the world’s top scratch dj’s in DJ TMB (Europe). The album was produced by Philadelphia Dj, Haze Attacks and German beat smith Oboone.

In conjunction with the album, a book based on the life of Backstab the Kingpin will be released. “Drinking Hip-Hop” is a start to finish book on the life of a white rapper who never found super stardom. Writer, William Bane will sign copies from 5-7 June 20th at Off the Beaten Path Books in downtown Farmington. 33314 Grand River Avenue.

Backstab has shocked the Detroit community and underground hip-hop world by announcing all proceeds will go to the Tumaini Center of Detroit. It is a NSO (Neighborhood Service Organization) facility that is the only 24 hour homeless shelter in Detroit. It provides our homeless, many of which are Veterans (VA a few blocks away) and/or mentally ill.

Here is a statement from Backstab:

"I have had a difficult couple of years healthwise. The time I do feel well enough, I want to help. When I left Detroit ten years ago that center looked the same is it does today. It's time to shed some light on that center by helping them out and reminding our citizens of this difficult, heartbreaking issue."
